[“Let’s liberate dolphins”: The number of dolphin drive hunters that can be caught this season is 1,849]
In human terms, there are enough people to extinct some of the small villages.
From September 1st, 2021 dolphin drive hunting will begin in Taiji, Wakayama Prefecture. Many dolphins will be killed this year as well. Also, many dolphins will be separated from their families and sold to aquariums.
The change from the 2020 hunting season is that the number of false killer whales has decreased from 70 to 49. False killer whales have not been captured in Taiji since 2011. The Fisheries Agency says it is based on scientific research, but it would be difficult to think that the rationale for reducing the number of false killer whales that have not been captured for 10 years by 21 this year is reasonable.
For other species, there was no change in catch quota.
In this term, we will call it [“Let’s liberate dolphins: ? ], share knowledge and ideas useful for dolphin liberation activities, and encourage many people to be interested in dolphin protection and participate in the activities.
[Dolphin without a snout / Thoughts of crossing dolphins / can’t go anywhere]
At the Kyoto Aquarium, there is a dolphin whose snout (the part where the mouth sticks out) is cut off diagonally and the tissue is visible.
The name is “Seed”. At the age of 14, she was probably captured in Taiji from the wild, separated from herd family and companions, and forced into the aquarium.
There are 5 dolphins including “Seed” in the Kyoto Aquarium.
“Deel” Male 12 years old (born 2009) Place of birth: Unknown
“Beat” Male 15 years old (born 2006) Place of birth: Unknown
“Seed” Male 14 years old (born 2007) Place of birth: Wild (Taiji)
“Ten” Female 12 years old (born 2009) Place of birth: Unknown
“Kia” Female 12 years old (born 2009) Place of birth: Wild (Taiji) Pregnant, scheduled to give birth in early August
It is well known that dolphins have a well-developed brain and linguistic ability, and are animals that build strong bonds and sophisticated and complex societies while communicating with friends and family.
But the social nature of dolphins is extremely harsh in the limited space of an aquarium’s tiny pool.
“Deal” and “Beat” are on good terms, but “Seed” doesn’t match and they aren’t in the same pool.
The “seed” has been isolated from the two for years, unable to be shown together at the show.
Once in the past, “Deed” was given a little bit, and an angry “Seed” relentlessly chased “Deed”, and “Deed” jumped out of the pool.
The gap between the two was not filled, and it seems that they were isolated.
The dolphins in the aquarium are a “collection” of dolphins brought from various places, herds and communities. They can’t leave, hide, or go anywhere for a lifetime, years, or decades, even if they don’t get along and have a good relationship.
Spend endless days until death in a small pool far from the natural environment. Imagine that stress.
Aquariums are, of course, familiar with this fact.
What will happen to the “Seed” that has become “not cute” in the future?
The “Seed”, who couldn’t get along with anyone and had a face that he couldn’t show or didn’t want to show, would probably spend his entire life alone in this tiny, isolated pool.
I wonder how cruel what the aquarium is doing for the dolphins.
It was the aquarium that injured the “Seed”.
The aquarium is already robbing the dolphins a lot.
And it is forcing the dolphins to carry more load.
It is artificial breeding.
We will collect and share more information about future “Seed”.
